I am Latino

I was born in Long Beach, California. I never knew my birth parents, my Latino parents. I was in foster care before I knew it and before I was even born. Lots of Latino parents love their children. They try to get them into good schools; they want them to have great jobs when they grow up that will help them have lots of money and be successful. But I did not know mine, or I don’t remember.

I had many foster parents, most were Latino, and they were very mean. Then my beloved Mom and Mama adopted my older siblings and me, and they are white. My adoptive family wants good things for me and avoids terrible things that could cause problems in my life.

Some people may be afraid of me just because of how I look, but not my Moms. Some people think I might hurt them, but I won’t. They may believe that my friends and I are up to no good and call the cops just because we are Latino. This makes me scared that they may harm me even though I did nothing wrong.

Once upon a time, the Latino people were rich and used different ways to hunt for food back in Southern America. I know some people use traps for hunting birds. Some people use bows. Latino farmers protect their sheep and cows from wild dogs. Some Latino homes can be built with different materials. You can use bricks to make the walls and straw for the ceiling. You can also use mud bricks; you can also use wood planks. Homes can be built in different ways. Life back in Southern America is different and has a history I don’t know.
