This virtual art exhibit will be part of a research project to study Latina/o/x Former Foster Youth’s cultural identity.

As an artist you are asked to submit art inspired by the theme “I am Latina/o/x.” This theme represents your interpretation of your identity (who you are) and your relationship to Latina/o/x culture (habits, values, and traditions).

• You must be a former foster youth and must identify as Latina/o/x.
• You must currently live in Los Angeles County (or have lived in the area while growing up as Foster Youth).
• You may submit up to 1 original artwork of your creation in any medium that can be showcased online in a virtual art gallery. Examples include visual pieces; creative writing, such as poetry/spoken word, short story, or first-person narratives; videos of dance, music, or other performance art.
• If you are under 18 years of age, you must seek parental approval to submit, and all consent forms need to be signed.
• If you are over 18 years of age must sign all necessary consent forms.
• Acceptable file formats for art include (but not only) PDF, .JPG, .JPEG, .GIF, .PNG, MP3 and MP4. If needed and for assistance getting art into a digital format, please contact me at alicwyne@msmu.edu
• All applications for entry into exhibit must be submitted no later than February 14th, 2022 midnight, pacific standard time.
• Corrupt files or entries that are not viewable will not be considered for the project.
• Incomplete or late submissions received after 11:59 P.M. PST, 02-14-22 will not be considered.
• Artists should include artwork titles, dimensions, types of media used, and year of completion for each work submitted.
• There is no application fee.

Art must be Suitable for all audiences for online display (but all art content will be acceptable for research purposes).

Artists will be divided into three categories: grades k-5 (approximately 5-10 years old), grades 6-12 (approximately 11-17 years old), and adults (18+).

You must sign permission to showcase the art, and if under 18 years old of age must seek parental approval.

Expectations: This is a pilot study, so we do not know how many artists may submit pieces and we hope to have enough space to accommodate everyone.

Copyright: Entries must be submitted by the original artist. You must be the sole owner of the art piece you submit and the submission of the piece and the entry form is your guarantee that you are the author and copyright holder of the work.

Additional Terms and Conditions: By participating in the show, you agree to release and hold harmless any affiliate of this project -The principal investigator, advisors, MSMU., board, and affiliates, from any and all damages, injuries, claims, causes of actions, or losses of any kind resulting from your participation in this exhibition, including infringement of intellectual property rights. We assume no responsibility or liability for any damages, injuries, claims, causes of actions, or losses of any kind arising in whole or in part from this virtual art gallery (see consent forms).

The art gallery will stay live until 05/30/2023.
